The Carolina Panthers were taking on the New England Patriots in a preseason match up on Friday night. There was a scary moment in the second quarter when Panthers quarterback Cam Newton left the game early with an injury.

Newton took an awkward hit from Patriots LB Jamie Collins, but did return one play later. He was also sacked three times while he was on the field.

During the second half of the game, the Panthers took Newton to get x-rays, and those came back negative according to Albert Breer. He also reports that Newton has a contusion on his back which is basically is a bruise, though I’m sure Newton’s bruise is a lot nastier than any we get from walking into the coffee table.

Aside from that, Newton looked pretty solid in preseason action with completing 8-of-12 passes for 88 yards and added three rushes for 12 yards.
