Although the Miami Heat re-signed center Chris Bosh, there has been speculation the Heat are looking for another big man to perhaps let Bosh move back to his natural position of power forward. He may be a better fit there since LeBron James left for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports the Heat are interested in veterans Andray Blatche and Jason Maxiell but Elton Brand does not seem like a possibility.
Among power rotation players, the Heat has shown interest in Emeka Okafor and has considered Ekpe Udoh. Preliminary inquiries were made on Andray Blatche and Jason Maxiell. Agent David Falk said he talked to the Heat about Elton Brand but that Brand is unlikely to end up here.
Blatche averaged 11.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.6% from the field, 27.8% from beyond the arc and 74.2% from the charity stripe for the Nets last season. In his career, he’s averaged 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 46.7% from the floor, 23.7% from beyond the arc and 72.5% from the charity stripe.
Maxiell went for 3.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 44.8% from the floor and 48.4% from the free throw line. Maxiell, who was originally selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 26th-overall pick in the first round of the 2005 draft, spent the first eight years of his career in Detroit before joining the Orlando Magic a year ago. In his career, he’s put up 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50.1% from the field and 56.3% from the charity stripe.
