Vance McDonald scores first TD for 49ers in NFL preseason (Video)
By Jack Crosby
Well it took long enough, but the San Francisco 49ers finally found the end zone in the 2014 NFL preseason. In their third game of the preseason on Sunday afternoon against the San Diego Chargers, backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert and tight end Vance McDonald provided the preseason milestone.
Down 7-3 with time winding down in the first half, Gabbert found McDonald for a six-yard touchdown strike, giving the team the lead heading into the half.
You can watch the play in the video provided below.
This is definitely a step in the right direction for the 49ers, who have indeed had a miserable preseason thus far. The team that’s considered to have one of the most explosive offenses in the game not scoring a touchdown through the first two preseason games was a bit concerning, to say the least.

However, they were able to get in there on Sunday, although it didn’t come from Colin Kaepernick and company, rather it was the newly acquired backup Gabbert.
In the game, McDonald has three catches for 29 yards, including the previously mentioned touchdown.
Following this contest with the Chargers, the 49ers will finish up their preseason slate next week against the Houston Texans.
