To say the Denver Broncos have been impressed with Cody Latimer would be a severe understatement.

More from Denver Broncos

The young wide receiver has been outstanding through camp and it looks as if the Denver Broncos will be rewarding him with not only snaps, but targets in the redzone.

It’s currently not known if Latimer is ahead of Andre Caldwell on the depth chart, but when it comes to opportunities in the red zone Cody Latimer will be one of Peyton Manning’s targets.

"The Broncos will also use rookie Cody Latimer, especially in some of their redzone packages, because of Latimer’s size and ability to win the ball in contested situations."

At 6’2 and 215, Latimer has pretty good size but when combined with his leaping ability and soft hands, he shouldn’t have much difficulty beating opposing defenders to the ball. Combine that on top of the relatively soft coverage he’ll be facing and Latimer should be available for a Peyton Manning pass more often than not.

Of course, there are a lot of mouths to feed for the Denver Broncos and Latimer’s time will likely be reduced when Wes Welker is healthy, but it sounds as if he’ll get a solid amount of playing time and will be on the field when it’s most important.

Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and tight end Julius Thomas are likely to be the preferred targets in the redzone but Latimer could very well sneak in and be a significant help, replicating a role filled by Eric Decker last season who left in free agency for the New York  Jets.
