After telling USC coaches that he suffered ankle injuries when he jumped off of a second-story balcony to save his drowning nephew, conflicting reports started to surface. USC investigated the reports and Shaw must have felt the pressure.
On Wednesday, Shaw informed USC that he lied about the story and it was a complete fabrication.
“We are extremely disappointed in Josh,” said USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian in a statement. “He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story.
“I appreciate that Josh has now admitted that he lied and has apologized. Although this type of behavior is out of character for Josh, it is unacceptable. Honesty and integrity must be at the center of our program. I believe Josh will learn from this. I hope that he will not be defined by this incident, and that the Trojan Family will accept his apology and support him.”

USC has apologized for publishing the initial story and Shaw has been suspended indefinitely.
Shaw has apologized to his coaches, teammates, athletic department officials and the public for making up the troubling lie.
He has sought Donald Etra as legal counsel and is expected to issue a statement soon. Shaw’s defense attorney has represented the likes of Snoop Dogg and Rihanna. You have to wonder why he would need such a powerful attorney, but the rumors floating around do not look positive for Shaw.
Hopefully they prove to be as false as his heroic story.
