The New York Jets have found themselves in a messy situation with cornerback Dimitri Patterson. According to the Jets, Patterson, who is projected to start, went absent over the weekend.
General manager John Idzik said Patterson didn’t show up for Friday’s game against the Giants and was unreachable for most of the weekend. Well now Patterson is responding, and he is calling out Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan for lying about the situation, without calling them liars.
“As it relates to my whereabouts and me missing for 48 hours without being seen or heard from me or my representative is completely false,” Patterson said in the statement. “My agent reached out to the Jets organization multiple times several hours prior to Friday night’s game.
“My commitment to the Jets organization and to my teammates has never been an issue and never will be an issue. As it relates to the rumors about my frustration in regards to the depth chart is totally and completely false. In nine years I have never had control over the depth chart.”
The sticky situation for the Jets gets even worse when you consider how thin they are at his position and how much they need Patterson. Can they handle keeping him around after he ripped the team’s leadership?
