The San Antonio Spurs are always looking for ways to improve.

More from NBA

That’s what has helped keep them at the top of the mountain.

They’ve had a rather quiet offseason, re-signing big man Boris Diaw and point guard Tony Parker, among others. Their biggest addition cam through the draft when they made former UCLA Bruins’ forward the 30th-overall pick in the first round of June’s draft.

However, the Spurs have their eyes on another addition.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Spurs have interest in veteran big man Gustavo Ayon, who spent last season with the Atlanta Hawk.

Ayon is currently playing for Mexico in the FIBA World Cup. Mexico is in Group D, which features Angola, Australia, Korea, Lithuania and Slovenia. They will will open their tournament against Lithuania Saturday.

Ayon was limited to 26 games last season because of a right shoulder injury. He averaged 4.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 51.0% from the field and 40.0% from the free throw line. In his three-year career, he has also played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando Magic and Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 4.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 53.6% from the floor and 50.4% from the charity stripe.
