Jesus Montero has had a number of issues in his short career. He is well on his way to being dubbed a massive bust as far as top prospects are concerned. Montero created his latest problem by getting into an altercation with a team scout this week.

That incident is going to cost him the remainder of the 2014 season. On Monday the Seattle Mariners suspended him for the rest of the year. Per Scott Miller.

The altercation in question was ugly for both parties, as the scout reportedly was heckling Montero about his weight and telling him to hustle. To take that one step further, he actually ordered an ice cream sandwich and had it sent to Montero, as a fat joke, one supposes.

At that point Montero had to be physically restrained from the scout, reportedly trying to take a bat into the stands after him and throwing the ice cream sandwich at him.

One might be tempted to have fun with this story and say that Montero has been suspended for throwing an ice cream sandwich, but the issues obviously run much deeper than that.

The Mariners acquired Montero from the Mariners in exchange for a fellow top prospect at the time in pitcher Michael Pineda back in 2012. It was pretty much downhill from there for Montero, whose career has become a laughing stock. This suspension is just the latest entry in those struggles.
