The New York Knicks are looking at a season where they may not have much going for them, but that could all change if they either pull things together or make a big trade.

More from NBA

New York has trade chips teams could want, but to acquire the right guys they’ll be pressed to give up more than they want. This would be the case when it comes to Greg Monroe, as the Knicks are a perfect fit for him but his price may be too high for a sign-and-trade to work.

"The Knicks make sense, but I can’t see them giving up the assets that Detroit would want. The Suns have Miles Plumlee and Alex Len, who was the No. 5 overall pick just a year ago, so there’s no need for them to make a splash for Monroe."

The Knicks need someone like Monroe to help not only give them another big body in the frontcourt but another big name. Right now it’s Carmelo Anthony’s traveling circus of nobodies, and that needs to change. What New York needs is a big center to hold things down and Monroe fits the bill.

Patrick Ewing fits the bill though too, and there’s about as much a chance he comes back as the Knicks finding a way to acquire Monroe.
