It’s been said that the Memphis Grizzlies want to re-sign Marc Gasol after the upcoming season concludes, though they know they’ll have their work cut out for them.

More from Memphis Grizzlies

Set to become an unrestricted free agent, multiple teams are said to be intrigued with the idea of signing Marc Gasol, including the New York Knicks who will have plenty of cap space come free agency. Will the Memphis Grizzlies be able to compete with the deep pockets of the offseason?

That’s not something anybody knows at this point, though there is some understandable concern coming out of Memphis that the Grizzlies may not be able to lock up Marc Gasol to a long-term contract. Given that, Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes that Gasol could find himself on the trade block come February.

"Marc Gasol hasn’t garnered a lot of attention even though he can be a free agent next summer, but if the Grizzlies have a slow start, I can imagine the rumors starting up about him. Still, he has longstanding connections to Memphis, so I don’t think he wants to leave, and the Grizzlies seem to want to keep him and their core of their team around."

Memphis’ saving grace, as noted by Myron, is the fact that Gasol loves playing for the Grizzlies and doesn’t seem easily swayed by bight lights illuminating elsewhere.

Still, if he’s to stay in Memphis, he won’t come cheaply as Marc Gasol will make nearly $16 million dollars in the final year of his contract this season.
