It’s September, as you’re likely aware, as the weather gets a bit more comfortable, the leaves start to change, and MLB playoff races are in full swing. If you’re lucky enough to be a fan of a team still in contention, every game matters at this point, and every advantage, even the smallest advantage, is huge. Having already predicted the division winners, let’s look at some potential x-factors in baseball who could be the difference between going to the playoffs, and going home in October.

A reminder, just because a player is considered an “x-factor” doesn’t mean the player is under-performing, or necessarily needs to step up. For some of these guys, it’s clear they have talent, and might just be in a small slump, or they’re capable of turning their play up a notch when necessary. Some of these x-factors are already playing at a higher production level than previously in their careers, but will need to continue the excellence to keep their team in contention. Some are names you’re well-familiar with, others might surprise you, but these x-factors could be key in September.
