The top-ranked Florida State Seminoles improved to 2-0 with a 37-12 win over The Citadel on Saturday night.

The Citadel runs the triple option and their offensive lineman block low. They wound up injuring three Seminoles’ defensive lineman in the game – starters Eddie Goldman and Nile Lawrence-Stample and backup Justin Shanks.

Seminoles’ head coach Jimbo Fish wasn’t exactly happy but refused to call The Citadel dirty.

“When you play these kind of teams, they’re constantly cutting the knees and ankles,” Fisher said via Jeff Hartsell of The Post and Courier. “Nothing illegal about it. That’s just football.”

However, it doesn’t sound like Fisher is interested in playing a team like that again.

“Those guys that cut and block like this, it’s crazy,” he said. “I’d rather play more conventional teams, just because of the chance of injuries that occurred.”

Turns out, he shouldn’t be. Victor G. Hill, an offensive lineman for The Citadel that his squad planned to go for the Seminoles’ knees and that their “mindset” was to contribute to the injury list.

Obviously, intentionally injuring any player is a serious matter and that certainly isn’t what football is all about. The Seminoles do have a bye next week before they host the Clemson Tigers in what could be their biggest game of the season on September 20. That game has virtually decided the ACC Champion in each of the last three seasons.
