Despite a disappointing win-loss record in 2014, the future is bright for the New York Mets. Greater things could be on the horizon as soon as 2015.

One key question remains as the Mets look to next season and beyond: do they want manager Terry Collins to remain the man in charge in the dugout?

Collins’ job security has been a story that has wavered throughout the course of the entire 2013 season. Such as these things go, especially for professional sports teams in New York, it has seemed like Collins would be reported to have job security one week and be on the hot seat the next.

Considering the relative lack of talent when Collins took over the job in 2011, he might be deserving of the benefit of the doubt despite a 292-335 overall record with the club. On the other hand, one might reasonably argue that the team needs a fresh start at manager as their next wave of young talent arrives at the big league level.

In a video for Fox Sports, Ken Rosenthal reports that Mets’ club officials are split on whether or not Collins should remain manager of the club. While his proven track record in the big leagues holds appeal, Collins apparently raises some concern with the way that he manages young pitchers.

Considering the fact that the Mets are an intriguing team because of a wealth of top pitching prospects like Noah Syndergaard, Zack Wheeler, Rafael Montero, and Brandon Nimmo, the handling of the organization’s young pitching is no small consideration.

This will be an intriguing off-season for the Mets, with Collins’ future among the top priorities.
