Well, that didn’t take very long, just hours after Ray Rice was released by the Baltimore Ravens on Monday afternoon, fans of the team began taking to the streets to burn the running back’s No. 27 jersey.
Rice was released after video evidence of Ray Rice striking his then fiancee and knocking her unconscious surfaced in the wee hours of the morning.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell also announced that the league has decided to suspend Rice indefinitely.
In the past, we have seen fans burn jersey of fans after the players bolt their favorite team via trade or in free agency, and that is often silly. This time, however, fans have a reason to be upset and want nothing to do with supporting Ray Rice.
For months, the Ravens stood behind Rice as his story seemed to indicate he was acting in self defense.
The video released on Monday showed that Rice was the aggressor from the beginning and he clocked a much smaller woman with a shot that could have been tragic as she fell and hit her head against the elevator railing.
There is no one who should want to do anything other than throw away their Ray Rice jersey.
Some fans just decide to go a step further.
