Jay Cutler gets blasted, takes helmet to sternum on sack (GIF)
It’s been a rough outing so far for Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, but things have gotten a bit rougher after being struck in the stomach area by Quinton Dial who used his helmet to hit the QB.
Of course, this hit was flagged by the referees, and for good reasoning. The rules are pretty much clear when it comes to hitting players with the crown of ones helmet–they are illegal in every facet of the game.

Following the hit, backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen was seen tossing passes on the sideline, but he wasn’t needed as Cutler would hit Brandon Marshall on a beautiful deep touchdown pass after the hit.
Since the Green Bay game in the NFC championship where Cutler’s toughness was questioned, there have been many plays to prove those claims are false, this being one of them. It can’t be pleasant getting struck in the gut by another players helmet–we’ve seen hits like these lead to rib injuries throughout the NFL.
Fortunately for Cutler, the halftime mark came soon after, giving him time to rest his body before heading back on the field. Down 17-7, the Bears are gonna need go Jay Cutler on the field if they want to come back and win this game.
