Today, the Los Angeles Dodgers were on the road against the Chicago Cubs for a day game at Wrigley Field. It was Edwin Jackson’s return to the Cubs rotation after spending time on the disabled list, but more importantly, it was Clayton Kershaw’s quest for his 20th win.

Although it is the Cubs, the Dodgers were going to need a good performance out of Kershaw facing a lineup that Chicago has bolstered with some young prospects, or so they thought.

Spotted six runs in the first inning, Kershaw was able to cruise through 5 innings, qualifying him for the win. While it wasn’t one of his best starts, it wasn’t his worst either.

Clayton Kershaw finished with 9 strikeouts, while giving up 7 hits, and 3 earned runs over the 5 innings.  Los Angeles hung 5 earned runs on Jackson before his departure after just two outs.

The Dodgers cruised past the Cubs, and Kershaw now sits alone as baseball’s lone 20 game winner in 2014.

While it was Justin Verlander winning both the AL Cy Young and MVP awards just a couple of seasons ago, no one has done so in the National League for a long time. After watching the Marlins Giancarlo Stanton go down with a few weeks left in the season, Kershaw may have seen his only competition for the MVP award literally fall by the wayside.

Look for Kershaw to run away with the CY Young award, as he should, and contend for the NL MVP award as well. The Dodgers are playing some great baseball right now, and they have Clayton Kershaw to thank for a lot of it.
