Brown is listed as day-to-day, but with about a week left in the regular season and the Phillies eliminated from any chance of postseason contention, there’s a good chance Brown will be shut down if the injury is at all serious.
Right hand sprain for Domonic Brown
— David Murphy (@ByDavidMurphy) September 20, 2014
Brown had what appeared to be a breakout season in 2013, slashing .272/.324/.494 with 27 home runs, 21 doubles and eight steals, but has regressed this season, slashing .237/,288/.356 with only 10 home runs, but 22 doubles and seven stolen bases.
The 27-year old is a former top prospect who finally was allowed to play a full season last year, but rumors have popped up regarding the Phillies growing tired of Brown, so many rumors that when Brown posted a cryptic Instagram picture related to his recent relationship breakup, many fans assumed he had been traded (even though very few deals happen in September in MLB).
The Phillies have been mum regarding the team’s plans for Brown, but would be wise to keep any unrest private, as Brown is one of the few Phillies younger than the age of 30 with a reasonable contract and salary. The left fielder is eligible for arbitration for the first time after next season.
