Here’s one for you if you are hanging out with baseball nerds and you want to win a bar bet: who leads the Los Angeles Dodgers in games started in 2014?

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

That would be none other than right-handed starting pitcher Dan Haren. The veteran entered this season as one of the team’s biggest question marks in terms of health and durability, yet he has proven to be the closest to a sure thing in the starting rotation.

Having passed 180 innings on the season this week, Haren vested a $10 million option to pitch for the Dodgers again in 2015. But as Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times reports, Haren might actually consider retirement instead.

"Unless, of course, he decides to retire. He’s 34, has pitched in the majors for 12 years, has earned over $70 million and is married with two young children.“I think I’ve earned the right to wait until the end of the season and take a deep breath, see where my family’s at and go from there,” Haren said. “I think I’ve pitched good enough to deserve that.”"

Haren has pitched well lately and could be an important player for the Dodgers in the postseason. He has also shown enough for the Dodgers to want him back next season, even at a steep price tag at $10 million, if he does decide to pitch again.

In those 31 starts, Haren is 13-11 with a 4.03 ERA and 181 innings pitched.
