Demaryius Thomas’ slow start with Denver Broncos not contract related
By Bryan Rose
Often times when a player is up for a new contract and has a great season, he’s deemed to be a ‘contract year player’. Of course, sometimes a player will also struggle in anticipation of getting a new deal and there’s been speculation that Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is doing just that.

Currently in the final year of his rookie contract, the wideout has looked like a shell of his former self during the early portion of the Denver Broncos season though he insists his pending deal has nothing to do with his on-field woes.
“Nah, the contract is not part of it. The contract is going to work out by itself. I can’t really do nothing about it,” Thomas said. “Either you play well or you don’t. There’s no dollar signs involved when I’m playing football. All I care about is winning. So when I can’t make the play, the reason I’m upset is I’m not helping the team win.”
Part of the reason for Thomas’ slow start could be attributed to having more defensive focus placed on him. More than that though, Demaryius Thomas has been suffering from a case of the drops given he’s had his mitts on four balls that he couldn’t complete for a catch.
Thomas, who has also had to deal with coverage from Richard Sherman and Vontae Davis says he’s not hurt and understands that he needs to improve his play if the Denver Broncos are to succeed this season.
