Paul Konerko of the Chicago White Sox is retiring at the end of the season. He was able to play out the final games of his career in front of an appreciative home crowd as the White Sox wrapped up their season with a series against the Kansas City Royals.
On Saturday and Sunday, the White Sox had Konerko take the field defensively and then removed him for a substitute. That allowed the team to give a franchise favorite a chance to take in the ovation with a moment all to himself.
Both times it was a goosebump worthy moment, and especially on Sunday in his final game as a pro.
Check out video of Konerko’s exit on Sunday below.
A classy exit for a classy player.
