Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook made some news on Monday when he proclaimed himself the best point guard in the NBA. Some agreed with him, others mostly suggested the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry or the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul as better floor generals.
Not surprisingly, Clippers coach Doc Rivers was among those that said they’d take Paul before any other point guard.

Paul was asked about the situation, but it doesn’t seem like the Clippers guard was offended by not being called the top point guard by Westbrook.

Chris Paul [cont.] on Russell Westbrook: "Like, what do ya’ll expect him to say? You want him to say no?"

Just about everybody’s right in this situation. It’s understandable that Westbrook would feel he’s the best point guard in the NBA as would be natural for any competitor. Rivers was wise to stand up for his point guard and Paul made the right move by defusing the situation and crediting Westbrook.
Westbrook averaged 21.8 points and 6.9 assists per game this past season. Paul averaged 19.1 points and 10.7 assists per game.
