LSU DB Dwayne Thomas out for season with ACL tear
By Mike Marteny
LSU nickel back Dwayne Thomas suffered a torn ACL in the Tigers’ 63-7 rout of New Mexico State on Saturday night according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2014 season, though no official word has been made by LSU head coach Les Miles.

Thomas was helped off of the field in the second quarter on Saturday night after trying to tackle New Mexico State QB Tyler Rogers.
The redshirt sophomore from New Orleans had 26 tackles, which was fourth on the team. Thomas also had 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and an interception through four games, despite not starting in any of them.
Though not officially designated a “starter” on defense, Thomas always plays in their nickel package at the same position that the likes of Tyrann Mathieu played while in Baton Rouge. This is a very important position in the LSU defense.
Freshmen Ed Paris and Jamal Adams would seem to be in line for more playing time with Thomas out of the season. That makes a young LSU team even younger.
Adams was a five star recruit coming out of college, so he would seem like a serviceable replacement or better.
The 15th ranked Tigers will travel to Auburn for a game against the fifth ranked Tigers of Auburn on Saturday night. LSU is a 7.5 point underdog right now, but that line may grow a bit when this news gets to the oddsmakers in Las Vegas.
