The Indiana Pacers lost their superstar player this offseason. David West has a rather grim outlook on the season as a result.

Over the summer, the Indiana Pacers lost Paul George to a brutal ankle injury and that has put a massive could over everyone’s head.

George wasn’t really replaced in free agency either, as the Pacers roster is largely the same it was last year, sans some major pieces. Lance Stephenson is gone, Evan Turner is in Boston and George is likely out for the year with his injury.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com highlighted some of the negativity that is infecting the Pacers right now, as David West is speaking truth with his outlook on the season.

"“Obviously, we’re not in a position to compete for a title,” said Pacers veteran David West. “I don’t even think we can look at the big picture.”"

This doesn’t mean West and the Pacers are going to mail it in this year, but they’re clearly in a defeatist mood. You can’t blame them either, as they lost their superstar and don’t figure to be frontrunners in the East without him.

Derrick Rose is back, LeBron James has returned and teams like the Wizards and Hornets are much improved. All of this points to the Pacers struggling this year without George, and they’re apparently very aware of that.
