Mark McGwire would love to manage someday

Mark McGwire has gradually worked his way back into baseball’s good graces as a hitting coach. Now the former slugger would be interested in being a manager someday.
Peer into the Los Angeles Dodgers dugout on any given night, and you might catch of a glimpse of Mark McGwire. Or, more accurately, you might catch a glimpse of what’s left of McGwire as he serves his role as the team’s hitting coach.

For a man who was eventually, reluctantly accountable for his steroid use as a player, finding a gig as a hitting coach has been a good way for McGwire to ease his way back into good standing in baseball. It also gives him the chance to continue his stated goals of educating today’s players about the pitfalls of the mistakes that he made.
As far as career goals are concerned, McGwire has stated interest in being a manager some day. That tidbit emerged as public knowledge thanks to the news that McGwire will not be considered for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ managerial gig.
Ken Rosenthal passed along the following tidbits.
Teams have become more open-minded in recent seasons about the types of managerial candidates they will consider. McGwire could certainly become a viable option for some team. That will be especially be the case if he puts in a few more years as the hitting coach for a winning Dodgers’ team.
People love second-chance stories. It might not be a completely smooth transition, ultimately it’s not hard to envision McGwire getting a shot as a manager for his second chance.
