The Detroit Tigers were one of the best teams in baseball this season but this just wasn’t their year. after fighting all season long and making some serious trades, the Tigers have been swept by the Baltimore Orioles in three games to exit in the ALDS round of the playoffs.

Detroit put David Price out on the mound in Game 3, which highlighted how much this series sweep stings for the Tigers. The whole reason the Tigers acquired the former Tampa Bay Rays ace was so that he could help them in the postseason but the clinching win in the ALDS for Baltimore came against Price.

All of Baltimore’s runs came with the single swing of Nelson Cruz’s bat, as the slugger blasted a two-run shot that scored Adam Jones in the top of the sixth inning. Detroit tried to make things interesting at the end of the game, scoring a run on J.D. Martinez base-hit.

But the Tigers bullpen did them in during the ALDS. Detroit got what they needed out of Price in Game 3, as he went a full eight innings, handing only an inning of work over to the bullpen but the first two games saw the bullpen implode on more than one occasion.

That’s what killed the Tigers in the playoffs, and if the Orioles hadn’t taken advantage than one of their other two opponents ultimately would have.

As for the Orioles, they now await either the Kansas City Royals or Los Angels Angels. We could get a situation where the Royals and Orioles go at it in the ALCS for a trip to the World Series, which would be amazing for the sport of baseball.
