Michigan State’s athletic director isn’t happy with their student section
If you’re not filling seats for a primetime, top-25 match-up in a conference that suffers from a lack of top-25 teams, you kind of have a problem. Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis knows that and he’s not too happy.

Michigan State was ranked 10th going into last Saturday’s home night game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers who was ranked 19th at the time. While it was a huge game for the Spartans, they’re were plagued with a student section that didn’t all the way show up, which is weird for a game that’s played under the lights.
Hollis took to Twitter to speak of his embarrassment and sadness to see parts of the student section not filled.
I spoke with many students & they share my disappointment and embarrassment of the support coming from the southeast corner on Saturday.

We will work together to build a student section that enhances our teams ability to win championships. From kickoff to the end of the game.

As a program, we are prepared to make the changes that will fill Spartan Stadium with Spartan fans that want to be there.

Spartan Stadium holds 75,000 and in a night game it shouldn’t be hard to fill. However, temperatures did reach the mid 40s in the second half, while Michigan State seemed to have built a big lead, 27-3 going into the fourth quarter. But, Nebraska took advantage of the quieter crowd and made a late push, scoring 19 unanswered points in the second half coming up just short in the game, losing 27-22.
Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio expressed his thoughts on the unfilled student section, upset because he had asked the students to come and stay late for this key B1G conference match up.
“I don’t call for the fans many times,” Dantonio told MLive. “We needed it to be loud there, and it’s a big football game, and it got a little empty there at the end.”
We’ll see what kind of changes Hollis makes to try and fill the stadium to support the 8th-ranked Spartans make a push for the college football playoff this season.
