Sony to take PlayStation 4 to China?
Sony has seen the success Microsoft experience with the Xbox One in China, and now they want the PlayStation 4 in on the action.
Heads up Microsoft, and move over, Sony isn’t ready to let you be the only company with a console in China. After Microsoft successfully launched the Xbox One in China recently, Sony is set to bring the PlayStation 4 to the country as well. The unveiling could take place as early as this year.

Sony could send up to 200,000 PlayStation 4 consoles to China by December of this year. Bloomberg first commented on the report, and it has been noted that 200,000 units is not a number set in stone, and it could vary.
At the end of September, Microsoft brought the Xbox One to China and sold 100,000 units on the first day. Microsoft has partnered with BesTV in targeting sales of over 1 million units in the first 12 months.
At this point, no further details have been confirmed as far Sony’s plans in the new territory.
This type of move was to be expected. China just recently lifted their console ban, and it was only a matter of time before the big players hopped into the new market. For Sony, they saw the success that Microsoft experienced early on and new they couldn’t wait much longer.
If Sony did anything wrong here, it was in waiting. As a whole, Sony is struggling financially, and it is the gaming division that is keeping them afloat. With strong sales of the PlayStation 4 throughout the world, it is somewhat surprising that they weren’t the first console to knock down China’s door.
At any rate, it’s a better late than never type move for Sony, and the expectation would be that the PlayStation 4 would sell well in the new territory. With the holiday season approaching as well, look for Sony to make sure that they have some consoles on retail shelves for the period.
It will be interesting to watch the competition between the two consoles in the new market.
