Buffalo Sabres Are Off To A Catastrophic Start
The Buffalo Sabres aren’t starting things off well for the 2014-2015 season
I had high hopes for Buffalo this year. I really did. I may not have predicted any Sabres appearances in the playoffs, but I certainly assumed that the team would break the triple-digits threshold for even-strength goals scored.
I could be very wrong.

The Atlantic Division team finished fourteen points behind the 29th-place team in the regular season last year, and look to be off to a similar- if not worse- start. They’re sitting with an 0-3-0 record, getting outshot 131-57 in the first three games of the season.
If one was to argue for the Sabres, they could suggest that the team has a somewhat skewed sample to choose from when looking at the games played so far. Buffalo opened up the season against the Columbus Blue Jackets, who many favor to dominate in the Eastern Conference this season, then continued on to play the Chicago Blackhawks and the Anaheim Ducks, two of the biggest powerhouses in the West. One could suggest that it’s easy to lose to teams like that early on and panic.
The Sabres had one of the most active off-seasons, though, dropping deadweight such as fourth-line plug John Scott and picking up former Flyers and Bruins defenseman Andrej Meszaros, along with former Canadiens captain Brian Gionta and his 2013-2014 teammate Josh Gorges. These additions should have at least helped the team score more than four goals in their opening games.
I hate to hop on the “Tank for McDavid” bandwagon, but…. ya know, if the shoe fits.
