Keys to Victory

The key for Ole Miss is to continue to do what they’ve done all season, especially in wins against Alabama and Texas A&M and that’s by playing a suffocating brand of defense that has resulted in the Rebels having the No. 2 scoring defense in the nation at 11.8 points per game. The Rebels have also been able to score the ball with 12 interceptions, including three returned for touchdowns, the same amount of passing touchdowns they’ve allowed.

Tennessee faces a tough test in the Rebel defense and a significant step up in class from last week’s win over FCS opponent, Tennessee-Chattanooga, who were no match for Worley who scored five total touchdowns.

However, Tennessee ranks 13th in the SEC in point and yards, so the offense will have to have a flawless performance on Saturday to move the ball and score some points.

The Vols have a top-20 scoring defense, allowing 19.2 points per game and in yards per game at 316.3 per game, so that defense will need to win the turnover battle and get Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace out of his rhythm when he has shown a history of throwing interceptions.

He has six this season, but only three since halftime of the season opener.

Prediction

This Ole Miss defense is the best in the nation in my opinion and shut down Kenny Hill and Texas A&M high-powered offense on the road last week, so I don’t see a scenario where the second-worst offense in the SEC finds a way to outscore Wallace, Laquon Treadwell, Evan Engram and this Ole Miss offense.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rebels blank Tennessee in this contest because Ole Miss is a big mismatch for the Vols offense. This Landshark defense is just so deep in the front four and their secondary may be the best in program history, which spells trouble for Worley and a very young Tennessee team.

The Vols can look to the Rebels as an example of how to build a team up from the bottom with exceptional coaching and recruiting, but the Vols are a couple years away from being where Ole Miss is at now.

Final Score: Tennessee: 10, Ole Miss: 34
