On Sunday night, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning broke the all-time NFL passing touchdown record against the San Francisco 49ers.
Just about every news outlet across the country reported Manning breaking the record previously held by Brett Favre, including KOMO News in Seattle who applauded the effort of Peyton.
Gary Payton, that is.
Ashoka Moore of ESPN noticed the rather hilarious and embarrassing blunder which showed a photo of Gary Payton in place of Peyton Manning.
There are obvious mistakes though this was clearly a pretty bad gaffe.
Needless to say, if you’re going to have an intern pulling up stock photos of athletes you probably want them or the editor to be a sports fan so they can actually tell the difference between the two.
Gary Payton of course is a bit of a legend in the Seattle area given his tenure with the Supersonics so it’s a little alarming nobody caught the blunder simply because of that, let alone not knowing what Peyton Manning looked like.
Perhaps the news station was simply having a little fun at the Denver Broncos expense as if the beat down in the Super Bowl wasn’t enough.
