When the Boston Celtics acquired Will Bynum in a trade with the Detroit Pistons last week, the veteran NBA guard likely thought he had found a home – at least for the remainder of the season.
But news quickly broke suggesting that Bynum’s stay in Beantown wasn’t likely to be a long one as the team was considering waiving him. Before that time comes though, the Celtics are apparently attempting to trade Will Bynum to anybody who will listen.
The problem? It doesn’t sound like anybody wants to bring Bynum aboard, especially given the talk of a potential release.
Simply put, if you’re an NBA general manager why are you going to give up any type of asset for a player who is likely to be a free agent in a matter of days? Sure, you’d give up your trash but the Boston Celtics don’t want that. What they likely want are assets like a second-round draft pick and there’s just no reason to give something like that up for a player like Will Bynum.
All that said, it seems difficult to believe the Boston Celtics will be able to trade Will Bynum unless they’re willing to absorb some salary in a deal. That of course doesn’t make much sense on their end so it may be best served for all parties just to release the veteran guard who can then sign with whomever he wants, assuming he’s not claimed off waivers which appears very unlikely.
