The family of Oscar Taveras, an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, confirmed that Taveras was killed in a car crash in the Dominican Republic. He was 22 years old.

There is tragic news out of the world of Major League Baseball on Sunday night. Young St. Louis Cardinals’ outfielder Oscar Taveras was killed in a car crash in the Dominican Republic. His girlfriend was also reportedly killed in the crash.
The news was reported on Sunday night. People briefly hoped that it was a misunderstanding in an unconfirmed report, but it quickly became clear that Taveras had indeed been killed. The tragic news was confirmed by Taveras’ family and his agent.

Taveras has just completed his rookie season with the St. Louis Cardinals. Regarded as one of the best hitting prospects in baseball the last number of seasons, Taveras delivered a thrilling moment in this year’s playoffs, in what ended up being the second-to-last-at-bat of his career.
