Ben Roethlisberger had ‘no idea’ he broke several passing records for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

You may have had a good Sunday during Week 8 of the NFL season, but yours probably paled in comparison to that of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who set team records in every major passing category in the team’s 51-34 home victory. Despite all that, Roethlisberger was hardly phased by the news, claiming he didn’t even realize what he’d done until it was brought to his attention.

“I had no idea,” Roethlisberger said via the Tribune-Review. “I don’t know what’s going on, (unless) guys come up and tell me or it’s on the Jumbotron. … There’s been a lot of great quarterbacks who’ve played this game, and to be mentioned in same breath as those guys …”

Yeah, yeah, we get it, Ben. You’re honored and all that and you’re just happy to get the win. But the numbers are truly shocking. He set records for completions (40), yards (522), and touchdowns (six) in a game in which the team needed most of that production to fend off Andrew Luck and the relentless Indianapolis Colts.

Center Maurkice Pouncey called Ben’s performance ‘awesome’.

“You could tell — usually he’s more relaxed, but he was zoned in and you could tell that,” Pouncey said. “He didn’t say much, but he told us it was (big) time football and it was time to go. And what quarterback wouldn’t be (motivated)? Any time you have two great quarterbacks on the field, there’s always going to be competition between them.”

The Steelers continue to be one of the more confounding teams in the NFL, but as long as the offense plays like that, they’ll be a tough team to beat, even as their defense ages and slows down.
