Oakland Raiders fans are waking up to sad news on Monday, as former first-round draft pick Mo Collins is dead at the age of 38.

Former Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Mo Collins, who played six seasons in the NFL, died on Sunday morning of apparent kidney failure. According to the Charlotte Observer, Collins missed his duties as head coach of West Charlotte High on Friday night while receiving dialysis. He would later succumb to kidney failure less than 48 hours later.

Collins was drafted by the Oakland Raiders back in 1998, taking him in the first round with the 23rd overall pick. He came into the NFL in the same draft class that saw Charles Woodson join the Raiders and the duo would play together for the next six seasons. Collins was part of the Oakland Raiders Super Bowl team in 2002, but never won a ring in Oakland.

Former Carolina Panther Dee Brown, who is a fellow coach in the area, noted how Collins was looking forward to his coaching career before his untimely death.

"“I know he had a big heart to help kids and really wanted to turn West Charlotte High School around. I know he was taking great pride in that. Charlotte, West Charlotte High School, the NFL and the entire community has just lost a good man, but I’m sure his legacy will remain in the hearts and lives he touched.”"

Collins was loved by Raiders fans, and his loss marks another low point in a post-Super Bowl era that has been unkind to the Raiders both on and off the field.
