Amar’e Stoudemire Willing To Come Off Knicks Bench
By Ed Carroll
Amar’e Stoudemire is in the final year of his contract with the New York Knicks, and he’s accepting of his sixth man role off the bench.
NBA fans don’t need to worry about Amar’e Stoudemire sulking about not being the New York Knicks’ starting center anymore. Stoudemire has only started one game in the preseason, but is willing to accept whatever role Knicks head coach Derek Fisher hands him.

“I know whatever the situation is, I’m learning three different positions, as far as the power forward, the center and perimeter player, so it’s very versatile on my end, too, so I’m ready to utilize my skill in whatever it is, a starting role or a sixth man role,” Stoudemire said.
He added that he takes his game seriously regardless of if he’s starting or coming off the bench, but still has trouble with back-to-back games. He occasionally takes a red wine bath on his recovery days, leading to some offers of being a spokesman for wine companies.
Stoudemire is in the final season of a five-year, $100-million deal, which has mostly been marred by injuries. A bounce-back season from Stoudemire might not be enough to make the Knicks contenders, but it would surely make Fisher’s job easier.
