The Los Angeles Lakers were opening their 2014-15 NBA season at home on Tuesday night against the Houston Rockets, and the game itself has been a blowout. However, to add insult to injury, a much more disastrous blow struck the team in the fourth quarter, and it may result in rookie Julius Randle missing basically his entire rookie season.
Late in the fourth quarter Randle went down with a severe leg injury, and TNT sideline reporter Rachel Nichols said that the Lakers bench was stating that it was a broken leg, although that hasn’t been confirmed at this time.
After a horrible season last year, the Lakers garnered themselves a Top 10 pick in this past June’s NBA Draft, where they selected Randle out of Kentucky. Last season Randle, as a freshman, was instrumental in leading the Wildcats to the NCAA Championship game, where they lost to the UConn Huskies.
Randle was expected to make an impact on this Lakers team this season under the tutelage of the returning Kobe Bryant and new head coach Byron Scott; but now it appears as if that lesson will have to wait until next season.
