The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks opened a big halftime lead and hung on for a 30-24 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

24. 28. Final. 30. 36

The Seattle Seahawks got a defensive score and opened a 21-point halftime lead before holding on for a 30-24 win over the winless Oakland Raiders Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

The Seahawks (5-3) fell behind 3-0 early, but ran off 24 unanswered points to open a 24-3 halftime lead.

Marshawn Lynch scored two touchdowns on the ground and Bruce Irvin returned an interception 35 yards for a score on the last play of the first quarter.

Lynch’s first score, a 3-yard run late in the first period, was a trademark “Beast Mode” run, where Lynch appeared to be stopped well short of the end zone before bulling through tackles to break the plane with the football.

The power of Skittles, indeed.

But the Seahawks had to hold on to beat Oakland (0-8), recovering an onside kick with 1:52 remaining to ice the game after Oakland got to within six points on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Mychal Rivera, the duo’s second touchdown hookup of the game.

Oakland (0-8) tried to get back into the game, stopping the Seahawks on their first possession of the second half and then getting a special teams score when Denico Autry blocked Jon Ryan’s punt and Brice Butler recovered the loose ball in the end zone.

Carr then hit Rivera for a 1-yard touchdown late in the third to get Oakland back to within a touchdown at 24-17.

Seattle got a pair of field goals from Steven Hauschka from 30 and 40 yards in the fourth quarter to pad the lead. Hauschka also booted a 34-yarder in the first half.

Lynch had a strong game, finishing with 67 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and also catching five passes for 76 yards.

Russell Wilson was erratic in the rain, completing just 17-of-35 passes for 179 yards. Carr finished 24-for-41 for 194 yards and the two touchdowns but was also picked off twice.

Seattle hosts the New York Giants next week, while the Raiders get to play last season’s other Super Bowl club when they host the Denver Broncos.
