Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp will reportedly miss four weeks due to a leg injury suffered on a hit from Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin.

The Chicago Blackhawks will be without one of their top forwards for at least a month after Patrick Sharp took a hard hit along the boards and injured his right leg. CSN Chicago reports that Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Sharp would be out for a ‘bit’ before sources confirmed the four week timeline.

The check from Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin seemed innocuous for an NHL hit, but Sharp immediately fell in pain and struggled to get off the ice, requiring help along the way.

Sharp has been one of the most consistent scoring forwards in Chicago since the team’s surge to the top of the league. While Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews dominate headlines, it’s Sharp who has scored at least 30 goals in each of his last three 82-game seasons. It’s also Sharp who has rarely missed time with injury in that stretch, putting more pressure on the top duo as well as winger Marian Hossa.

The Blackhawks have struggled coming out of the gate, but struggle is relative when you’ve won two Stanley Cups in the last five years. The team is still squarely in the middle of the Western Conference standings and without Sharp, they’ll look to remain afloat in that middle until they can once again get healthy and make a run at the top of the Central Division.
