So the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t going to go 0-82 after all.
Behind 21 points each from guards Kobe Bryant and Jeremy Lin, the Lakers topped the Charlotte Hornets 107-92 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Bryant show seven-of-20 from the field, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists while Line was a much more efficient eight-of-12 with seven assists and two rebounds. Carlos Boozer had 16 points and five rebounds, Jordan Hill had 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds while Ed Davis, who had 10 points and five rebounds, was the fifth and final Laker in double figures.
The Hornets were led by Al Jefferson. Jefferson scored 23 points on 10-of-23 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Kemba Walker had 17 points on seven-of-11 shooting with four assists and three rebounds while Gary Neal added 14 points and Marvin Williams chipped in 11. It was another poor game for the Hornets’ prized free agent signing Lance Stephenson. He grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out five assists but had just six points on three-of-12 shooting.
The Hornets took control of the game early, taking a nine-point lead in the first quarter, which was also the margin at halftime.
After the break, the Lakers would take over. Down 58-51 with under eight minutes to go, the Lakers ended the quarter on a 25-6 run and had a 76-64 at the end of the quarter. The Lakers stayed in control throughout the fourth quarter and took home their first win of the season, 107-92.
The Lakers shot 51.2% from the field while the Hornets shot just 44.3% from the field.
The Hornets will be back in action when they travel to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers Tuesday while the Lakers will be in Memphis to take on the Grizzlies Tuesday night.
