Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant set the NBA all-time record for missed shots on Tuesday night but many see that as a negative. If you look at the context of the record though, there is a good reason. Just ask Kobe himself.
He set the record with 6:22 remaining in the 107-102 loss to the Grizzlies with 13,418 missed shots in his career. That missed shot was one more than former Boston Celtics star John Havlicek had. There will be many more.
Whether it is in Los Angeles or somewhere else, Kobe still has basketball left in him. The reason why he misses so man shots is simple. He takes a lot of shots. He currently leads the Lakers with field goals attempted and missed. He’s averaging 9.4 shots per game on 24.0 attempts. He missing almost 15 shots game. That’s a lot.
There you have it. He’s a guard, a shooting guard. The man with the ball the most, puts it up the most, will score the most and miss the most. It makes sense.
So while many look on the surface and say wow, that’s a lot of missed shots, if you are one to lead that category, in this case and in the case of the man whose record he broke, you are looking at stars of the game who handle or have handled the ball a lot for their teams.
