The Los Angeles Dodgers will aggressively try to trade an outfielder this MLB off-season to free up some space on their roster.

The worst kept secret in baseball is that the Dodgers have a cluttered mess in their outfield. They have too many outfielders, and at least three of them are severely overpaid. It would be a serious help to their roster construction to unload one of those guys in a trade.

The players the Dodgers would especially like to trade? Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes the following:

"Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is definitely trading one of his outfielders.Friedman will likely deal Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier to create a more manageable situation for manager Don Mattingly.“We have a lot of good players and we have depth in an area which allows us to go into the market and hold conversations with the other 29 teams to try to help another area of need,” Friedman said.Friedman will have to eat an enormous amount of money with Crawford or Ethier."

At this point, the Dodgers will probably be willing to eat significant money and take diminished returns in a deal just to get out from under this situation. They are one of few teams that have the financial resources to do that, and here’s betting that finally happens this off-season.

Crawford is due to make $18 million next season and has three more years left on his contract. Crawford is due to make $20.25 million and also has three years left on his deal. It is a mess, and anything the Dodgers can do to get rid of it will certainly be their chose course of action.
