Flyers’ Claude Giroux may have an ankle injury; Hextall insists it isn’t too serious

It’s always good to hear that Claude Giroux is going to be back in the lineup soon.

The Philadelphia Flyers already spent a significant chunk of the pre-season without their captain; now, it seems as if they’ll be skating out without him once more. The forward seems to have hurt his ankle, with the prevalent rumor being that he was hit by a puck in practice.

Although it has been confirmed that Giroux will miss Wednesday’s matchup between the Flyers and the New York Rangers — and is likely to miss the team’s Thursday night game, as well — general manager Ron Hextall insists that it won’t be a lengthy recovery process.

According to NBC’s Pro Hockey Talk, Hextall estimates that the recovery process will take place over a time span of ‘days, rather than weeks’.

"“I can’t give a definitive timeline, but we don’t expect it will be a long time,” said Hextall."

It is important to note, though, that Hextall didn’t sound particularly confident when giving these reports. Although he assured the media that Giroux had initially felt fine following the incident, reporters tweeted about the GM sounding ‘flustered’ and ‘not all that sure of himself’ when making the annoucement.

The Flyers have struggled out of the gate this season, sitting at a 7-7-2 record good for 6th in the Metropolitan Division. The only two teams hurting more than Philadelphia would be the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes, both who went through injury-related losing streaks early on.
