Minnesota Ice Cream Man Explains Actions
By Hayden Kane
The Minnesota man who was eating ice cream in the snow on the sidelines this past weekend had the chance to explain himself in the midst of his new-found fame.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers played the Ohio State Buckeyes this past weekend in a freezing cold setting. As anybody in the great state of Minnesota will tell you, the deep freeze of winter has set in a little bit earlier than usual this year. It’s already single-digits cold with snow on the ground, and some of that snow was blowing around for the game.

The folks in Minnesota are of a different breed when it comes to the cold, however. If it’s above 40 degrees outside, you might see people in shorts. A number of outdoor activities continue well into the winter. The cold cuts through so much of people’s daily lives up here, they have learned to adapt.
That brings us to ‘Dilly Bar Dan.’ The man seen eating an ice cream bar on the sidelines turned out to be a communications specialist for the headsets used by coaches. Dan Lehman has worked in that capacity for almost 20 years.
He went viral for eating ice cream in the snow, but honestly, Dilly Bar Dan doesn’t see what the fuss is about. As told to ESPN.com:
"“All for a Dilly Bar!” Lehman told ESPN.com. “This is absolutely nuts. Nothing like this ever happens.”“It’s never too cold for a Dilly Bar,” he said. “That’s just one of those things that I’ll enjoy whenever they give it to me.”"
Let’s be clear. It can definitely be too cold for a Dilly Bar, but when you reside in Minnesota, you just have to adapt. Take your cue from Dilly Bar Dan.
