By Josh Hill
The Boston Red Sox are hunting for big names this free agency and while Pablo Sandoval is still on the market, Hanley Ramirez soon won’t be.
Pablo Sandoval is without a doubt the biggest free agent name on the market this winter in baseball but there are still big names out there to be had an the Boston Red Sox see to want them all. After being involved in rumors that would see Sandoval sign with the Red Sox, Boston has gone ahead and reached out to Hanley Ramirez, who is finalizing a five-year deal with the team.

According to Ken Rosenthal from FOX Sports, the Boston Red Sox and Hanley Ramirez will be finalizing a five-year, $90 million contract on Monday when the former Dodgers infielder makes it to the East coast. The deal, once finalized, will give the Red Sox a big name player they’ve been chasing and will likely make it hard for them to continue spending money this winter.
Rosethal reports that the deal isn’t final yet, but will be soon.
What this means is that the Red Sox may not have the cash to go out and sign Sandoval or bring back starter Jon Lester. Rumors have Lester going to the Chicago Cubs with Sandoval going either to San Diego or back to San Francisco.
Still, you can’t count the Red Sox out of the running, as singing Ramirez may only make them want to splurge even more and rope in Sandoval on a similar deal.
