Richard Sherman is known for talking a lot, and he’s also known as a communications graduate from Stanford; so it stands to reason that his iPhone app release is all about words.
Called “Letters of Boom,” the app is described as an “action-oriented word game” by Sherman himself. Players try to rearrange letters into words as fast as they can, and naturally there are things blowing up.
"“I’ve always loved word games, but there has never been anything out there that felt hard-hitting or extreme for me,” Sherman said via TMZ."
Sherman’s app is officially in the Apple App Store as of Wednesday and was developed on the digital end by Digital Kitchen, a company with offices in Seattle, according to the Seattle PI. The game costs $1.99 and at the current time is only available for the iPhone.
Following are the instructions, also from the Seattle PI.
"You try to spell words (maximum seven letters) using an endless stream of letters that you can drag one-by-one into two “trays,” for lack of a better word. Different letters have different point values, and you can score more points with occasional bonuses and multipliers."
Sherman also provides the voice work for the game and confirms that the app comes with an updated dictionary, including slang words and swagger words such as “picksix.”
He isn’t the first NFL player getting involved with the app business. Former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Brandon King also created an app earlier in the year called “Smashman,” where a quarterback is on the run from a defense. King’s app got 2,000 downloads in the first week of release.
One could say, game on.
