Following giving up more than 50 points to Alabama on Saturday, Auburn went ahead on Sunday and told defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson that his services were no longer needed. So now, there will be one name and one name only that will be floated around as the replacement.
Will Muschamp.
Also on Saturday, Will Muschamp’s tenure as head coach of the Florida Gators came to a close, and it’s assumed that his next job will take him back to what made him such a hot name in the first place a few years ago and that’s coordinating a defense.
Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports absolutely expects Muschamp to be the No. 1 choice of Gus Malzahn and the Tigers as they look to fix their woes on that side of the ball going forward.
Of course, the Auburn defense wasn’t just a problem on Saturday against Alabama, it’s been a problem for a good majority of the season.
So within the next few weeks, it will be interesting to see whether or not the Tigers will make a serious run at Will Muschamp, even though he might be commanding a high price tag to be a defensive coordinator.
