Budding Canadian superstar Connor McDavid seems to be on track to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships, as he was selected to the 29-player camp roster.

Its looking like we will see a Connor McDavid versus Jack Eichel showdown after all at the 2015 World Junior Championships.

McDavid, who is considered to go first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, sustained a fracture in his right hand back on Nov. 11 during a fight against the Mississauga Steelheads.  Initial prognosis was that McDavid would miss up to six weeks.  That would put his right on track to be ready for Canada’s first game of the World Junior Championship on Dec. 26 against Slovakia.

Hockey Canada director of player personnel said that McDavid would practice with the team even if he was not cleared by doctors.  However, his level of involvement would be limited determined by how well his hand was healing.  McDavid is set to see the doctors again on Dec. 9 to see how well his hand is recovering.

The 17-year old phenom was leading the Ontario Hockey League in scoring when he was injured with 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points.  Those 51 points, despite missing eight games, are still good for second in the OHL.

With Connor McDavid looking like he is on track to be one hundred percent by the time the tournament starts, it seems all roads are pointing towards McDavid’s Team Canada facing off at some point against Jack Eichel’s Team USA.  Hopefully, for all us hockey fans, that will be in the gold medal game.
