The Big 12 was left out of the first college football playoff as TCU and Baylor were the top two teams on the outside looking in despite winning by a combined 61 points and the lack of a conference championship game could be the primary reason they were slighted, so will the conference add a championship game to avoid this from happening again?

TCU was the biggest loser when the final college football playoff rankings were released on Sunday afternoon after falling from No. 3 to No. 6 despite a blowout win in their final game and Baylor was left out as well as no true champion was crowned in the Big 12 after Baylor won their final game to finish in a tie for first.

With no championship game there was no clear-cut champion in the conference despite Baylor winning the head-to-head matchup earlier this season and the lack of this was one primary reason why Ohio State was the fourth team in and they were left wondering what more they needed to do to play for the national championship. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the teams were penalized for not having a conference championship game, but

Well, according to Dennis Dodds of CBSSports, the athletic directors from the Big 12 are discussing the ramifications of adding a conference championship game to avoid this from happening again. Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger said, “It’s something we’re discussing right now while I’m here with you and it’s something we will discuss.”

"“We all hurt from that. You watch two teams that I think earned the right to play for the national championship. Going into this process … somebody is going to get left out. It’s unfortunate we have No. 5 and 6.“Again, splitting hairs. I listened to all the commentators yesterday. It’s a fine, fine line. I think those two teams could be the national champion if given the chance.”"

The conference is not likely to expand to 12 teams so if the conference adopts a championship game they will have to petition since they don’t have two divisions with at least six teams, a change that likely would be met with little objection from the other conferences.

What do you think? Should the Big 12 have a championship game and if they did this year do you think TCU or Baylor would be in this year’s playoff?
