Jon Lester is the player everybody is watching to get things rolling in MLB Free Agency this winter. As he nears a decision, he told the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday that he will not be signing with them.

If it feels like the Jon Lester rumors have gone in a big circle, that’s because they have gone in a big circle. Well, it has been more of an odd, misshapen thing that comes back to where it started, with a number of detours and dead ends. The Jon Lester rumors have been like a dumb maze that doesn’t end, really; it just comes back to the beginning.
For the better part of the last five months, we have heard that Lester would sign with either the Chicago Cubs or Boston Red Sox. Now? We hear that Lester will sign with the Cubs or the Red Sox. In the meantime, however, the San Francisco Giants legitimately emerged as contenders to sign Lester.
On Tuesday night, the ace informed the San Francisco front office that he would not be signing with them.
For now, we are back to Lester choosing between the Cubs and the Red Sox.
Here’s betting we make a couple more stops on the Dodgers and Yankees detours before a final decision, though.
