During the Anaheim Ducks‘ game Wednesday night at the Honda Center, they did more than just play host to the Edmonton Oilers — they played host to a soldier and brand-new dad, too.
The team decided to “Skype” with Sergeant First Class Robert Vandenberg Jr. via the arena jumbotron during an intermission in the game; his wife Patricia — who was sitting in the audience — had brought their one-year-old son Robert and newborn son Travis to the game, and the team decided Vandenburg should get a chance to chat with his family. He’s been serving in Afghanistan for the past ten months, so he hadn’t gotten a chance to meet the newest addition to the family yet.
Of course, they cut the feed before Patricia, Robert, and Travis were actually able to talk to dad… and moments later, he came out of a suite behind his family and met Travis in person.
I’m a sucker for any kind of feel-good act performed by the NHL, and this was no exception. Add in the fact that I just realized Christmas is a grand total of two weeks away, and I’ve totally lost control of any emotion stability I had upon waking up this morning. All of the feels are coming out, guys.
